Veteran's Day

My wife's home town has a Memorial park. We attended the opening ceremony dedicating it to veterans and had a brick placed there for her father.

Very nice tribute. I'm not sure which is the more praise-worthy challenge, serving one's country or raising five girls.
Happy early Veterans Day to all who served. This is our day, veterans who continue to enjoy the rights and freedoms we served to protect. Memorial Day is for those who "gave the last full measure of devotion." The two are too often confused. Those we celebrate on Veterans Day may be worthy of whatever thanks they receive. But those we celebrate and mourn on Memorial Day deserve far greater respect, honor, and gratitude.

Right on, brother. Happy Veterans Day. "All gave some, some gave all." Veterans day is about the first group -- AKA the survivors.
I refuse to be "honored" during Memorial Day services when the unknowing try to dilute the day by recognizing military veterans, dead veterans, and (worse yet) civilian public service employees dead or alive like policemen. Nor do I think "Happy Memorial Day" is appropriate. But that's just me and I digress.

No mail on Monday, November 12, is the only attention most will pay to this. Other than government employees who will get a day off.
1100 Paris tune (GMT/UTC +1) on November 11 marks the time of the Armistice 100 years ago in 1918. That will be 0500 EST (GMT/UTC -5). Not exactly the time for a beer so I'll put a decent slug of navy rum in my coffee.

At 0500 I plan to be under the haystack. It's a work day.
