My wife's home town has a Memorial park. We attended the opening ceremony dedicating it to veterans and had a brick placed there for her father.

What a wonderful tribute to yet another hero. I toast your Dad for his service.

I'm sure her Dad would be pleased.

Thanks, Ray. My Dad was proud of his service and often repeated his instructions to call the Veteran's agent when he passed. At the wake, a small group of veterans showed up to pay respects it was most appreciated.

Very nice tribute. I'm not sure which is the more praise-worthy challenge, serving one's country or raising five girls.

Happy early Veterans Day to all who served. This is our day, veterans who continue to enjoy the rights and freedoms we served to protect. Memorial Day is for those who "gave the last full measure of devotion." The two are too often confused. Those we celebrate on Veterans Day may be worthy of whatever thanks they receive. But those we celebrate and mourn on Memorial Day deserve far greater respect, honor, and gratitude.

Right on, brother. Happy Veterans Day. "All gave some, some gave all." Veterans day is about the first group -- AKA the survivors.

I refuse to be "honored" during Memorial Day services when the unknowing try to dilute the day by recognizing military veterans, dead veterans, and (worse yet) civilian public service employees dead or alive like policemen. Nor do I think "Happy Memorial Day" is appropriate. But that's just me and I digress.

I'll be honoring our Veterans by not working for the Military that day, but firing an M1 rifle at the local Veterans Memorial monument, after performing taps at the local VFW.

At 0500 I plan to be under the haystack. It's a work day.

Work day? A preacher? 11 November is Sunday. 12 November is just another Monday unless you work for the government. I ain't getting up at 0500 on Monday either.
