First name is Tom, last name begins with a C, hence TC. I've loved cats all my life, so it was easy to get tomcatt from that. I use two "t"s at the end, usually that allows me to not have to append another character or number. The nickname "tomcatt" is what I use on all of the various forums I'm on.
I've also always been interested in aviation, especially military aviation, most especially Naval Aviation. The pride of the fleet from the 70s until recently was the F-14 Tomcat (remember the movie Top Gun?), on of my all-time favorite airplanes. So there's another tie-in...
I've been using tomcatt as long as I've been online, going back to the days of dial-up BBS's.
Did you not create this thread once before? Either way? Here we go again?
I have been on line since 1991. Since the days of "bulletin boards" and 2400 BPS MODEM's, back when things were really slow. Inevitably, people would ask me where I was? At 2400 BPS it just made sense to me to come up with the nick of Matt_inVA as a short cut to that question. When I created my account here on S2Ki.com for my convenience I just made my nick all lower class so that I would not have to type and shift. I had no idea that people would not figure out that I was Matt_inVA as opposed to matt_inva and not associate the state with it at the time that I created the account. I have asked the administrators if it was possible to change the "case" without losing all of my history and the jury is still out.
The "1" is there because I like this screen name (and use it on other websites...where wingman is typically already taken ).
Now, why? Well, my first "wing" reference fell to me with this 1982 Honda Goldwing I'd restored a number of years back. Pictures you're seeing are in its final stages of completion...and with a mere 5 months of S2000-ownership, I sold that bike (and am always grateful both that I never lost my life or limb on it...and that The Bruised Banana proves to be a 4-wheel motorcycle juuuuuuuuust fine )
Running that bike with the Chapter U Goldwing Club, we'd run in a staggered formation. As such, I always rode in position as someone's "wingman." As one would note, riding with 2 or more motorcycles, and similar nod to the military's flight positioning, the formation concept has been used for its defensive value to the entire group. The basic rationale for formation flight is to position the planes in such a way that they can enhance mutual survival in a hostile environment (and if you've never ridden a motorcycle on today's uncaring highways...I promise, it is a hostile, uncaring environment ...and riding together in such a formation is definitely beneficial ).
Oh...and then there's always the fact that this is my fav meal on any restaurant menu
