What is wrong with me?
Surgery is tomorrow, May 13th, 10:30 am.
I have a rupture of the right thumb EPL (extensor pollicus longus) due to RA tenosynovitis. Surgery will be EIP (extnesor indicus proprius) to EPL transfer. Just like the body has two kidneys, so that one can be spared if necessary, the body also has two tendons that extend the index finger. One tendon is left intact on the index finger so that it won 't lose extension, and the "extra" tendon can be transferred over to the thumb to replace the lost function,.
After this type of surgery, a splint or cast is used for one month, after which supervised therapy may be started to re-learn how to use the transferred tendon to extend the thumb. My S2000 and my NSX, will be my biggest incentives to re-learn how to fondle their sticks.

I am not happy about having this surgery. I can function right now, without full thumb extension. I am going ahead with the surgery because the wrist area where the rupture is will be cleaned up at the same time. I'm hoping that this stops further deterioration in my right hand tendons. This is gonna suck!
I don't think I'll be posting much after tomorrow, for quite a while.

Wishing you the best, Patty. Sorry you have to go through this, but it could save you some more severe problems in the future. Make sure that you have Jerry keep us updated if you're unable to post.

^It didn't smell. But the sound was great! I'm still getting a good laugh out of it.

I cannot believe you!!!! If I did it, I wouldn't tell it (I don't think). I realllllly hate it that you won't be posting for a good while after tomorrow.
Can't you just dictate to Jerry? PLEASE!!!
On the serious side, I'll be thinking of you and really hope this goes well for you and that it does slow down any deterioration.
You know your ol' granny will be praying for a successful op and a speedy recovery. I was glad I got to see the problem up close and personal and even though it's not absolutely necessary, you might want to give someone the thumbs up sign somewhere down the line.
So, here's one for you tomorrow.
You'll have the hand of a bionic woman before it's all over with what they can do now. Keep us posted through Jerry. Oh, and speaking of Jerry, did he ever bandaid his skin back on his toe. I was so ready to pull it off for him, poor baby, thinking it really was a bandaid.
So, here's one for you tomorrow.

Sounds like a lot to cope with, Patty, but it seems you are making the right decision. Best of luck to you and a speedy recovery!!
