Default AWE STRUCK

Well to start the story lets got to this past monday. I was on my way to school when pinggggggg, a large piece of gravel shot from a truck tire and nailed my wind sheild. I couldn't beleive it didnt break the wind shield sounded like a gun shot. Anyhow I was pretty bumed b/c it left a scratch on my windshield and the car is brandnew! Being the optimist i am i reassured myself and said atleast it didnt hit my paint . So to day im washing my car and to my relif with alittle rubbing the scratch on the wind shield turned into something that looks like a very very little piece of lint . Well moving on washing my hood and S*** the rock must have skimed my hood before it hit my wind sheild Theres about a half inch scratch on my hood not all the way to the metal but down through the clear and into the base coat alittle. What do I do sorry I cant post any pictures my digital is at my parents house 3hrs. away. (the even s***ier part is the car is black so it sticks out like a sore thumb)?

Not to double post but also any insight on the 3M protectant that covers the frontend up to mid finder would be appriciated.

Are you sure it's through the clear? Basically the rule of thumb is that if you can catch a finger nail on the scratch then the only way to fix it is to paint the area.

It's definitly through the clear b/c i could catch my finger nail on it plus I tried using some rubbing compound on it no help the wax got caught in the scratch. I think however it would touch up easily b/c its not too deep(to the metal) and then if i got the 3M protectant thats comes half way up the fender across the hood it would cover it.

Yeah, I would let a pro do it and then let them put the clear protective stuff on.

To make it look smaller, try scratchx by hand polishing perpendicular to the scratch. I've used it on my friend's car who had a good amount of scratching to the yellow base (car was red) and it make the scratches much much smaller. Then you can touch it up or repaint.
