so- wash the area that is bugged, remove the mess, wash the car and rewax-

Yeah, you gotta re-wax....
Last night I tried something else that worked absolute wonders.... I had some tree-sap (I think?) that would not come out with anything (including WD40), so I tried some rubbing alcohol - came off like a charm! Of course you *really* need to re-was and re-wax that spot afterwards.

One time I tried some "clear coat safe" bug and tar remover on my hood and I noticed that the white cloth I was using turned red!!!!!
I washed the area again and I couldn't see any damage. I've heard of citrus based bug remover that is also supposedly "safe" but I haven't found it in any store yet.
