Default Bug/Tar remover products?

Are there any similar products to this http://www.detailersdomain.com/1zeinszetta...tarremover.aspx that are readily available at local auto parts stores, etc.? (basically a good bug/tar remover to use pre-wash that won't remove the wax layer or harm the paint)

Actually, yes. Surf City Garage makes one called Grime Destroyer that I like a lot. Pep Boys carries their line. I've never used the 1Z stuff, so I can't compare the two directly, but I do use and like Grime Destroyer a lot.

Is it safe on the paint (particularly it doesn't remove the wax layer front the paint surface so you wouldn't have to reapply wax every time you use the product)

I'm with our moderator. If it's strong enough to make bug removal easy, it's bound to remove wax. I don't think there's any way to get both wax-safe, and powerful bug and tar removal, in the same product.

I don't know if the Surf City stuff, specifically, removes wax. Like Wanabe, I always re-wax after using it. More to the point, I typically use it on my F250, on its chrome bumpers, headlights, and so on. Mostly surfaces that I don't wax anyway.

I've been using a bug and tar remover made by turtlewax. It's worked pretty good on love bugs, and recently on a big treesap spot. It takes a bit to get the sap off, but it claims not to hurt your finish and wax.
