I'm seriously considering attending next years S2k Homecoming in CA.
This would involve a cross country trek with my baby towed behind me (on a trailer).

I take great pride in keeping my car spotless. I would hate to show up in CA with no wash/wax materials at hand, and a dirty car (after 2400 miles ). I am trying to do some research on covering/protecting my car while it's on the trailer.

I'm smart enough to know that a normal car cover will do more harm than good to my car while it's towed behind me (wind flapping on stuff, rubbing, etc). I'm wondering if there are suggestions on how to protect the car from the dirt, rain, bugs, road crap that I am sure to run through during my drive.

I ran across this product, but it's really only good for frontal attacks by rocks/bugs. It IS the type of material that looks solid enough to resist flapping/rubbing, but does nothing when I'm parked for the night.

Anyone have any thoughts on keeping my finish sparkling after 2400 miles?

 

Buy or rent an enclosed trailer, it's the only way your car will arrive in the condition you desire and will only need a minor dusting/detail spray. The added benefit is you will have a dry/secure place for your S while visiting.

This. Or plan time to wash the car once you get to the event.

Anyway, to the topic at hand, I tow my car to far away autocrosses, and wouldn't consider a cover. There's too much wind, and the cover, even a nice custom fitted one, would blow around and scratch the car up. You also can't count on the weather staying nice for the whole trip, and if it rains, even with a cover on it, it'll still need to be washed when you get there.

Def no cover on an open trailer - as already stated, it would trap dirt / grime and cause swirls. You either show up with wash materials (I'd ALWAYS bring some with) or go with an enclosed trailor

 

As stated above, I would go with painters tape. Your cheapest method, I have known people to use it while trailing with not problems, and once you get here I would be willing to let you use all my detailing tools and supplies to get ready for the big homecoming, then use it again to prep it for the ride home. On a side note does anyone remember when Tein had one of their cars stolen in an enclosed trailer?
