Default Cleaning off aged brake dust on wheels...

I recently purchased a 1984 Audi GT Coupe that has 30K original miles. I have been cleaning and detailing the car for the past week now but have left the worst for the last. The Ronal wheels on the Audi are original and never been cleaned. The rear wheels are free of brake dust but the fronts wheels are needing attention.

My question is what product works best for cleaning the aged brake dust on the front wheels. Any input would be greatly appreciated!!!

Ira - are we talking "beyond the normal solutions" kind of cleaning?

Past the simple green soaking . . .

can we assume the rims are clearcoated? exposed metal ? painted ?

Ive had good luck on metal with a few different metal polishes . .. Racers Polish, Flitz, to name a couple . . .

what a pita you must be facing though . . .

The Ronal wheels are clear coated. Your idea of using Simple Green is great. I have forgotten about how awesome Simple Green is for cleaning, well anything!

Thank you for your comment!!!

Try using a clay bar on the wheels. It should work really well.

One of my friends suggested using clay bar on the Ronal wheels but there is not enough room to use the clay bar

Thanks for the suggestion...

Try WD-40 on the wheels.

Homer(2):

The Simple Green solution worked like a charm. The front wheels required two applications of Simple Green and the rear wheels just required one application. I had the mix ratio of 1:1 and you would not believe how the wheels now look!

Thank you for your help
