Default Convertible top question

While I was putting my 04 top down I noticed two strips of material which had come loose around both sides of the rear window. It looks like they are glued on and the side which was glued had some white material on it. The other side looks like velcro and acutally rests against the glass. I removed them since they were so loose so now the question is how do I put them back on and what purpose do they serve. You have to pull the sides of the the flaps to see them.

(This post won't be of any help to you)

Huh. This is interesting. Mine's got the "white plastic looking glue looking stuff" near the rear window as well. In February, Jeff (Hardtopguy Jeff) came down to our monthly meet. I showed it to him, and he'd never seen such a thing before. I see you've got it, and we both drive 2004s.

My "mystery straps" also started to slowly work their way out of the top. They were actually in two pieces, about three inches long. The soft side of the velcro was attached to the sticky side of the velcro. I half wonder, now, if they were some sort of temporary thing that the factory used during assembly? Mine have been missing for over a year, and the top operates no differently.

I think we both have the same issue. I showed it to a guy who installs convertible tops for cars and boats and he said if it isn't causing a problem dont worry about it. I dont have any pics and I am not going to worry about it. Just curious.

i got the same problem too on my left side. However, since it's on the inside of the top i keep forgetting about it, this thread reminded me of it -_-. I was gonna try to superglue it back on. From what i can tell it just keeps the window from rubbing the top on those sides, but you can't even see from that far so i don't understand it either.

Be careful with superglue, it will melt certain plastics. Your top is plastic.

I was thinking of contact cement or a vinyl adhesive. I will ask my top guy when I take it in for seat repair.
