Default Detailing instructions from the pros!

Hi guys...I just purchased a kit from bettercarcare.com that includes the PCable, sonus SFX2 polish, klass AIO, and the assortment of pads/buffing bonnets.

I would just like instructions (not the basic stuff, got that off their website) but the technical stuff.

Here goes.

1)Wash car thouroghly.
2)Clay Bar the car
3)Wash car again.
4)Using the green pad, apply the SFX2 Sonus polish.

Questions about step 4.
a)What RPM to sent the PCable to, 1,2,3 etc.
b)Do you apply the polish, then buff off with microfiber by hand, or do you just keep on spinning the PC until its gone?

5)Using the blue pad, apply Klasse AIO.
What RPM?
6)Buff the AIO with the buffin bonnet attachment, but what RPM?

If you think someone is wrong, just let me know, I would like to learn!

A) For Porter cable I used speed 5-6 to apply compound. I don't know what SFX2 polish is like.
Is it compound or polish. I apply all my pre sealants at speed 4

B) I apply polish at speed 4 , then remove by hand using MF

5) I apply AIO at speed 4. I pour an inner ring of the pad and that does almost an entire hood and panel
6) I remove AIO by hand using a MF towel

Normally you apply polish until there is minimal hazing.

I recommend all of this work however, on a test panel you can acquire from a junk yard.

Hope that helps

great answers, as usual, simon!

i would only add that the pc speed really depends on what you are comfortable with... imo, start out slow if you are learning. start around 3. might seem too slow, but too slow is better than too fast!
once you are comfortable you can increase the speed. increased speed will speed up the process, but you dont want to do that until you are ready. keep the cord off of the car (i put it behind my neck- just be careful), and make sure you do not have any zippers or belt buckles on (sweats work great!). and shade is your friend!

work small areas- i learned to "work the box"... about 2' x 2' areas- side to side then diag and finish front to back. then move on to the next area (note that they really arent exactly 2x2! cause you wouldnt be able to do fenders or bumpers if they were )-

i usually use the machine to apply and remove my synthetics and sometimes my carnubas too- this one is completely what you like to do... no right or wrong.

not too hot...

i wring them out and scrub by hand (squeeze and rub, repeat several times)-

trick-
dry by putting them back on the machine... be sure to use a very low speed (i learned this lesson the hard way when i first got the machine- spun a pad apart!!)

You'll get a feel for the buffer and polish overtime, but the best technique in my opinion, is to start with the most pressure you can apply safely, then in using the buffer, slightly lift the pad higher and higher off the paint. It will start to "pull" the polish onto the pad for lack of a better word, and you'll be left with a slight chalky haze if done right. Then I go right in with a mf towel, or mf towel + some quick detail spray.
Also, when you do the pre-wash of your car, I suggest using dish soap, as that will strip all old wax and what not off of your car.

Gotcha guys. Thanks a lot for the help. I will post pics of before/after. Now if only this damn NYC weather gets normal, and stops going from 65 and sunny to 24 and snowing within a 3 day span.
