Lightbulb Did my first swirl removal

Well today i did my first swirl removal on my sister 2001 Toyota corolla
I had my pc and polishers for quiat some time now but never when for it do to the fact that i thought i wasn't ready which i wasn't i did half of the trunk for a test spot Sorry no pics....The car never been polished or waxed so when i felt the pain it felt so rough like sand paper so it was a good car to practice on.... this were the steps

Washed
Meguirs nxt car soup (2 buckets)
sonus Ultimate Wool Wash Mitt (top part)
the all white wash mitts shmitt (bottom part)

Dried
The Ultimate Guzzler Waffle Weave By Cobra

Clayed
Sonus SFX Ultra-Fine Detailing Clay

quick detail
Poorboy's Spray & Wipe Waterless Wash
wiped off with Cobra Super-Plush Deluxe Microfiber Towel

Pads
Sonus Dual-Action System Foam Pads

Polish
Sonus SFX-1 Restore Polish (3passes) (orange pad)
Meguiars ScratchX9 (2passes) (orange)
Sonus SFX-2 Enhance Swirl Remover (1) (Green pad)
Sonus SFX-3 Final Finish Polish(1) (blue pad)

Wax
Klasse AIO (applied with Sonus Der Wunder Applicator)
P21S (blue pad then with the applicator that came with)

This is were i fail

1. Green pad ripped.. the pad just flew off and the white part of the pad stayed in tact with the backing plate (was new first time using it) I don't know what i did wrong)
Im ordering some new pads im going with edge 2000 pads

2. i couldnt remove the the heavy scratches only the light swirl marks but the paint feels nice now

3. i had no clue what i was doing lol..I didnt know if i was working the product correctly...when i added the klassee aio with the sonus applicator i applied and then wiped off the wowo method like animes2k did didn't even know if it was applied correctly... then i applied p21s with the blue pad and with the included applicator same thing i think i didn't do this right ass well

So guys i failed in the detailing world i feel bad

Edit: Did a search and it seems that the sonus products are only good for removing light swirls and not heavy scratches i need something aggressive correct?

First, I want to say don't be so down on yourself. It's hard to be an instant wiz with the PC. It takes a few tries to get good at it for a lot of people especially if you don't have anyone there who is mentoring you. Plus, taking on a 6 year old completely neglected car is a daunting task especially for a first timer.

Second, don't be so quick to blame the products. 9 out 10 times when it's someone's first time doing a swirl removal and they can't get everything out it's because of poor technique. Can you give us more info on your technique? What size area were you working? How fast were you moving the machine? What speed did you have the machine set to? How did you decide the polish had been completely broken down?

Third, as much as I think you'll prefer Edge pads to Sonus pads, I think you should call Autopia and tell them about your ripped pad. I'm sure they'll replace it. So, even if you still want to switch pads you'll have a brand new Sonus pad you can sell to offset some of the costs.

The first time I used the PC, I was disappointed with my results. Turns out I was doing everything wrong. I was working too large of an area, using too low of a speed, and moving the machine wayy too fast. Took me a couple tries to realize that I needed to stick to smaller areas, keep the speed between 5-6, and move very slowly (maybe an inch or two per second). Give it a shot again and I guarantee you will have much better results!

you might have seen this idea before in my posts:

post up in your local forum that you have the machine and products, and will supply refreshments if someone can show you how to do the job- (this is what mikeyc is referring to when he talked about mentoring)

i agree with mikeyc and diabolus2k- you will get it- and make sure that the camera is handy!!

Thanks guys on my next day off i would be giving it another try with out the green pad i still have the orange and the blue one...

I was working a 16"x16" area moving the machine back and forth to an up and down...overlapping 50%

When i thought the product was broken down i didn't the speeds were 1 to make sure the product was spread then 3,5, and 6

Edit: yes i do think i need someone to work with me that has experience with the pc Like
diabolus2k he stays in torrance
