do you all use or do anything special to brighten up the color-matched portion of the engine bay?

nope, just use a damp rag from drying the "nooks and crannies" of the car to wipe down the engine bay...

A nice combo of Gunk/Armor All Foam Cleaner seems to work very good.

Yes it does. I tried it after reading that thread about it a while back. I was simply amazed at how good it looked and has stayed looking good for a while.
