Default forum sponsorship

The other day I was reading a thread and someone brought up the subject of getting Autogeek to sponsor the Wash & Wax forum here on S2KI.com.

We should contact them and ask if they want to sponsor S2ki, and give us discounts.
NFR may have been joking (or not I'm not sure). However, his post got me thinking. I always thought Autopia was the W&W forum sponsor. So, I contacted Wanabe to find out what the deal is.

Wanabe relayed to me that we have no forum sponsor. The subject was discussed a long time ago, but whoever were board members at the time decided they didn't want a sponsor.

Well, I'd like to raise the issue again. So, please feel free to vote your mind and if you want put up a post explaining your vote. Also, if you're voting "yes" to sponsorship feel free to suggest a sponsor.

BTW, I've also offered to help Wanabe procure a sponsor should you guys decide you want a sponsor.

Hey Mike!!

Great poll buddy!!! BTW, I love reading about your details and also your product reviews.

Anyway, I'm glad you've raised this question. The way I look at it is like this . . .

The upside is . . .

-we'll probably be getting a discount from whoever our sponsor is
-they'll probably have representatives posting in the forum with useful information and helping us with our detailing questions
-the sponsor will probably have product give aways and contests
-we'll probably be directly notified of any sales the sponsor is having
-an existing relationship with a sponsor will probably make it easier for local clubs to get sponsorship of regional events

The downside is . . .

well there's really only one downside and that's that the sponsor's reps would be recommending to us the products sold by the sponsor

Personally, I think the upside outweighs the downside if we can associate ourselves with a generous sponsor who has some scruples.

As far as actually suggesting a sponsor, well you guys already know I'm really happy with my experiences with Autogeek. Plus, since they have such a varied brand selection their reps would have more brands to recommend. They currently sponsor the detailing forum on Bimmerforums.com if you want to check it out.

In the end it's up to all of us though. So vote wackos vote!!

i will wait to vote...
as i told mikeyc, this type of decision should belong to the group-

the downside that killed this last time was that with a sponsor it is harder to post up specials from non-sponsors, and to get advice from non-sponsors-
but maybe we can work around this this time...

several choices- and those that i see are:

autogeek
properautocare.com
autopia (owner of autopia is also an owner of one of our cars) / bettercarcare.com
sportscarcare.com (owner was also an owner of one of our cars)

we have also identified more choices in one of the threads at the top of the board...
if this is approved, i think that we would want to know what potential sponsors would offer our members-

Ahh yes, I had neglected to list that as a con that it would be harder to post specials from non-sponsors.

As far as getting advice from non-sponsors, aside from Sean I haven't seen any of that here. This is part of the reason I would like to see a sponsor. They would probably have reps here who could give out advice.

BTW, 23 views of this thread and I'm the only one that's voted so far? C'mon guys let your voices be heard!!

Yes!! I'm starting a full time detailing business and already have a contract with someone after the first of the year. I would use it to it's full potential, and help in anyway possible!

Bump!

By having a sponsor we have means to do things such as group buys and get discounts for car care products. It's pretty much like what is going on in the Group Buy section, since only forum sponsors are allowed to post group buys there. We also get an addition to our forums by having another knowledgeable person help us with our W&W needs.

I currently closed off my means of making my S faster and instead focused more on car care and detailing, since I can use the money I spend on supplies and knowledge and use those towards any car, rather than just my own (and hopefully I can make a little extra money by having it as a side job).
