Default gritty residue on paint

Driving home after work Friday I recall going thru a cloud of some kind. No construction or work vehicle nearby and no way to avoid it. Didn't think about it again until just now - while washing there was a slight gritty sound as the wool mitt went over the paint. Whoa!. Pulled out the florescent light. Nothing visible on the paint. By feeling different spots around the car its clear this was airborne-only the front, hood, trunk lid and very lightly on the top of the doors. Ok, so using very, very light pressure finished washing. Air dry only with the leaf blower then into the garage. Fluorescent light reveals no swirl marks, thank goodness. Time to test the claybar, find an inconspicuous place ... cool, comes off no problem! Starting to feel better now...

But, but- I can't do a full clay and wash now and I'm leaving town for 10 days. Will the grit shit eat thru my multicoats of Zaino? What to do wash and waxers?

This sounds like a classic job for clay bar and lubricant. All I don't know is whether there are any special things that must be done or products that must be use to clay bar a Zaino-protected car.

Thanks,
Richard

If you don't have "claybar" experience, make sure you use PLENTY of lubricant. I can't tell you how many people try this for the first time and talk about how difficult it is to do, and how the clay leaves streeks of itself on the finish. This means, simply, that they aren't using enough lubricant. If you are using enough, the clay should literally glide on the finish. Not enough lube will also take off more polish than needed.Turn your clay once in a while, and all should be well.

Thanks,
Richard

thanks to my friend from OK.

Did a round of clay last night. Amazed how much @#$% came off and how much was left. a few well lubed swipes and the clay was black. Still lots left after the first round so started a 2nd. Back to baby butt smooth after that one. Still have about 2/3 left to go.

Whats the best practice for the corners like where the body meets the trim around the roof well? Nip the clay into a point?

TIA

At these cracks and crevices, the thing I do is SUPER-LUBRICATE those areas and rub with clay. I find that the clay forms its own "point" necessary to clean the area, when the areas has A LOT of lube on it.

Hope this helps,
Richard
