How can I clean up my engine block?

I also recommend just finding another shop. You'll end up saving more time than manually doing it yourself.

I've gotten 3 qoutes so far. $45, $55, $65. If I can't find anything better, I'll have the shop do it for $45.

BTW, I tried spraying Brake cleaner on one side, and WD-40 on the other, but neither one did much.

A machine shop's Hot Tank is the only way I know of to get that clean metal look.

I would suggest some Simple Green... it works well on engine components that are in the bay. The best solution would be dipping it though, because you will most likely need something much stronger.
