Karl,
Just wanted to add a couple pics of my S2K (2001 F1 Red) that I modded myself since Sept 09 last year.
Hope you like the mods I did. (vacuum lines gone, coolant to intake bypassed, vacuum sensor relocated, cruise control relocated, K&N CAI, SAMCO hoses, etc.
Feel free to comment.

Great writeup. I still prefer CD2 over the Meguiars due to a more even coating, but other than that, spot on. I also add an extra step....
I....
1)Soak the engine
2)Wash with de-greaser
2.5)Rinse
3)Wash with soap
4)Dry
5)Dress.
I do this twice a month. You can serve dinner on my engine.

Honestly, if you do it often, the entire process takes 15 minutes. I never let any crap build up, so it's just rinsing off the surface dirt, and on my way I go.
When it comes to car detailing, EVERYTHING takes forever when you let it build up. I also claybar my car at least once a month, twice in the warmer months. Doing it often allows me to do it quickly. Doing it once a year can take HOURS!

Also, once more thing....
All you need to do is wrap a plastic bag over the battery (don't soak your terminals or they will corrode) and wrap a bag over the filter. If you have a stock airbox, just close up the entrance with some seran wrap and you're golden. Everything else in the motor bay is waterproof, including the alternator.

I did this yesterday, engine bay looks great but be careful near the heat shield, the part facing the engine is very sharp I sliced my hand scrubbing. Needed 12 stitches.
