any tips of a cleaning product strong enough for caked on dirt but still wont damage anything in the engine bay?

Run a search for APC (all purpose cleaner) in this forum and you should find what you need. I would use a variety of brushes to remove the crud after allowing the APC to work. Several small brushes are excellent for getting into tight areas where dirt accumulates.

Adam's All Purpose Cleaner straight or P21S straight (my preference) Soak it down liberally, with a cheap chip brush (local Home Center) agitate, rinse well and dress anyway you like... CD-2 seems to get some good reviews but I apply Adam's Undercarriage Spray or more recently CG Xtreme shine... Both require a wipe down plastic or not but last and last...

Don't forget the underside of the hood!

I have a stupid question. Is the engine running the entire time while you are cleaning?

here's a pic of my engine, Before buying it, the guy had the engine shampooed at the local honda dealership. The engine looked good after but wasnt good enough for me. I clean the rest using 303 protect ant, I think it turned out alright.

Bexiga, that is looking real clean, very nice, like new condition. We've got to swap out that brake and clutch fluid this spring though, it's looking too dark.

I've got mine cleaned up a good bit compared to how it was a few months ago. My car had lots of dealer installed rustproofing in the engine bay. I'm keeping the rustproofing on the lower vertical sections and the firewall even though it looks crappy. I've been working on cleaning up the upper sections horizontal areas. It still needs a bit of work but it' getting there. I've only used Spray Nine cleaner and 303 Aero protectant. I'm going to give all rubber hoses a good coating of 303 Aero to finish them up.

JFUSION, I didn't think the fluid was that noticeable, Figures you would notice my dirty clutch fluid, lol. In the spring I'll have to take you up on the offer on changing my fluid, I'm going to be changing my rad fluid also. Oh not to mention, I still have that damn stripped bolt for the spark plug cover to deal with?

Yeah give me a shout we can get it done. I changed my spark plug cover bolts to stainless steel, hopefully they are less likely to sieze and rust. I might be able to fit my impact driver to get that 5mm bolt out, I'll work on that.
