Default Need to clean a valve cover...

What can be used to clean a valve cover without damaging the paint? I have a dirty valve cover that needs a good cleaning and I want it to look as new as possible. Any suggestions? Thanks!

There's a bunch of under hood cleaners at the parts store like "foamy engine bright." I've never had a problem with any of them. There's also degreaser/detergent products like simple green that you can dilute or use full strength for tough stuff.

Just be careful to cover up sensitive electrical bits before you blast with a hose, and expect water to pool in the spark plug valley.

Simply green all the way! I have better luck with that stuff than any other "degreaser" its more natural and doesn't stink. Remeber, only let it stay on for 2-3 minutes and make sure to rings it off very well. It is known to eat aluminum if left on too long.

Heres my Bay last summer with about 98k on it...

spray nine cuts through grease and dirt really well, it works great on valvecovers but wash it off with a soapy water mix so it doesn't dry onto the cover when you get the engine hot.

You should seriously post a how to for this. Thats even cleaner than mine at 65k and I try to keep it spotless. Luckily the s2k engine bay isn't that difficult to clean

I would love to do that. I might use my fiances engine since I just cleaned mine. That way you can see a before and after. Look for it soon.
