Need Help
Well, I went ahead and tried bug and tar remover and also a bit of goo gone with no luck. I just ended up using a high concentrated mix of water with meguiars gold class carwash shampoo, some sonus shampoo and hit the area with the wash mit. I ended up cleaning up the lower rocker panel very well, just had to use patience along with some elbow grease. The bottom of the door was a different story, so I went ahead and placed an order with properautocare for a blackfire polyclay kit along with some other goodies I needed to stock up on and I will clay the area as soon as I get it in. I also discovered a great way to remove paint from a tire is to spray the tire with folex, then dampen a scrub brush with carwash shampoo and give it a quick scrub; the paint seems to come right off.
I just noticed this thread, and figured I'd ad my .02 in case this or something similar happens to someone else.
ZEP makes a product called Graffiti Remover which is a very strong solvent. It makes short order of removing paint like that as long as it hasn't been on too long. It's also great for removing tree sap that has hardened onto your finish. I bought a beater car a year or so ago that had sap that had been on it for YEARS, so it was like hardened epoxy and that stuff still took it off with relatively little effort.
We used to use this at a car dealership I worked for that had vandalism problems with kids spray painting the new cars on the lot.
Just be careful with it since it's strong. I would make sure and try a small test spot first and I probably wouldn't use it on single stage paint, or on a recently painted/cleared panel.
