Default Need Professional Help!

As of this writing I am undergoing my first full detail. I feel confident with everything but the polishing.

Big shout out to Phil for the 20% off sale

I have the following products....

1) Metabo PE12-175 w/3M Backing plate.

2) Menzerna Starter (IP and MP)

3) 1 green flat pad

4) 2 blue DD pads

5) 2 orange DD pads

6) 3 yellow flat pads

7) 6 black flat pads

(all pads are 5.5in)

What combo should I use first?
How to "prep" pad?
Speeds to use?

Mucho thanks for some Wacko assistance

go least aggressive, then move your way up.

I would go with the blue dd pad with MP if that doesn't work out then orange dd pad w IP (try a few passes if it doesn't work out for you) I prime the pads with some mist spray, usually detail spray and rub it in with my fingers. Others might do it different.

I use 900 rpms to spread my polish then 1200 to start then 1500 at full cutting power.

I use MP at 1200 > 900 > 600 to remove any holograms.

Thanks for chiming in. Going to start the polishing this evening so I hope it works well

Not sure if it is because I am using a rotary, but I feel I am missing something. I don't even get past speed 1 before the compound has been worked in (700rpm)?????

Also seen a few thread where compound does spit out. Do you wipe it off or work it in to remove it?

when polish splatters, i use menzerna top inspection to remove it, or some others might use isopropyl alcohol

also, try adding more polish or working a smaller area

I have been working thru it. Just using detail spray to remove the splatter and using less polish eliminated that problem. The Menzerna seems to clump when I use to much no matter how evenly I spread it.

Finished half the car so far. I was hoping to get some more opinions/advice, but I guess no one has much time for a Noob. Search button

Thanks again for the input.

make sure you use the pad conditioner before you go at it- one spray will suffice... Def. a good idea also to work your way from least abrasive to most abrasive

Prime the pad first. Apply a couple small drops onto the pad, work it into the pad by hand and go at it.

You should be able to work the polish over 700 rpms (unless you are going at it too long).

Also, make sure you're not applying too much polish per panel/work area. If your pad starts to really clump up, brush it out or switch to a clean pad.
