Default paint restoration

Can someone please post the steps and products needed for a full paint restoration? It has never been done to my s2k and the paint shows signs of ageing. thanks

Do you have swirl marks and dull paint you want to correct? if so, you'll need to invest in a machine (porter cable 7424xp is best entry level) and theres many different combinations of polish and sealant/wax you can use.

these are general how-to vids that can point you in the right direction of restoring your S to where you'd like it to be

you will want to

1 wash
2 clay
3 compound if necessary
4 polish
5 wax or seal

You want to pick up a Griot's Orbital Polisher for the job.

For a compound and polish you can use

Meg's DA300 with DA Cutting Pads

finish with Menzerna SF4000 with an Uber Green Pad

then protect with 1Z einszett Glanz Wax or the like

For swirls and water marks I use Meguiar's 105 followed up by 205. Use the Porter for both app's with aggressive and finishing pads.

I just ordered my 7424xp along with Menzerna Intensive polish, final polish, and finishing glaze. I've seen a lot of good write ups on this forum, hopefully I can remove my swirl marks too!!!

Also check out some of the articles listed here: Internet Resources for Detailing. I've had good luck using Meguiar's Ultimate Compound, followed by M205. I haven't tried Ultimate Polish, which is designed to be a follow-up to Ultimate Compound. Both Ultimate Compound and Ultimate Polish are available at local auto stores.

One important tip: always do a test spot before polishing out the car! You want to make sure that you can make a 12x12 spot look great before polishing the rest of the vehicle. This tip will save you lots and lots of aggravation, as well as time and energy.
