Default Porter Cable 7424

I hope the title subject says it all. I'm about ready to spring for a buffer/polisher. Certainly the general consensus here is that the
PC 7424 is the machine of choice.

I see it advertised on several web sites, to include some forum members, for $130. I then see an "ultimate" machine offered for $160. It appears that the major difference between the two prices is that the ultimate system includes extra accessories such as more pads and/or polish. Am I corect that there is no difference between the machines themselves?

Griot's offers what looks to be the same PC machine (judging solely from the pictures) but at a significantly higher price; $200. Even with their included accessories, that's a healthy difference. Griot's implies their machine is "better" i.e. a different product, but no model number is offered. It would be nice if I opened the box and everything was there ... buffer, all the required pads, polish, wax ... you get the idea.

I could swing the extra forty bucks, but see no reason to do so if I won't get a bigger bang. I don't even want to get into which wax to use, as there is a veritable plethora from which to choose, but I am probably looking at NXT covered with a carnuba.

In the interest of full disclosure I should state that I am a realist. A car is a machine and as such will get dirty, stone chipped, and driven in the rain. Still and all, I'll try to keep it presentable, if only to keep "wanabe" from thinking badly of me.

Many companies, including Meguiars, use the 7424 "engine" for their polisher, although they may change the casing for asthetic purposes.

Good luck...

This is a great read. http://www.autopia.org/forums/showthread.p...&threadid=14421

I think I would bypass the 7424 for the 7336. The 7336 has the 6" counterweight. It is much preferred to the 5" counterweight in that it reduces vibration on all speed settings.
