Default quarter sized drop

Ok so complete n00b. Borrowed my friends' porter cable and experimented on wife's car. ( I paid someone to wax my S, lol).

It says put a quarter sized of the stuff on the pad, then spread it around. I did just her hood, and I hear a little goes a long way. But when do you typically apply another quarter sized solution? I can't quite tell when it's used up, and the applicator still looks like there's stuff on it.

Gonna finish the rest of her car next week when I have time, lol. Then once I figure out how to not screw it up, will work on my other car.

usualy after each polishing area you supposed to brush off the pad with pad brush

and then apply more polish to the pad

what i like to do is spray the pad with water or quick detail spray once or twice before put on the polish, and the amount of product does not matter that much as long as you feel when you actually working the product with ur PC on your car the product will cover 80% of the pad. so draw a X on the pat is a bit better than just put a quarter size at middle to me.
