Question on using an extension cord with the Porter-Cable polisher.
I just received my Porter-Cable polisher. Before I use it for the first time this weekend, I would like to purchase a decent extension cord. In the instruction manual, there is a table for extension cord usage. Could someone explain how to interpret this table? It makes no sense to me. I'm thinking of purchasing a 14/3, 50' cable - would this be ok? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Honestly I don't think it matters. I have used a variety of extension cords. Just get an extension cord with a nice spool on it so it's easy to wrap up. One tip: When using the porter cable, I sling the extension cord over my width of my shoulders to prevent the cord from accidently hitting the car.

over the shoulders or behind the neck with the cord is right on- keep the cord off of the car.
a high quality heavy duty cord is a good idea. and 50 feet should be fine.
my other hint- first time you use it keep the speed down. prob 1 or 2. i remember first time i used one, when cleaning the pads i was spinning them dry and set it on about 8 (off of the car). the pad flew apart!
wasted that one- a lesson you dont need to repeat!!

Since it's his first time, what are you putting on? Are you waxing? Polishing? What pads are you using? What size pads? What color? What brand? Counterweight?
If you have product on your pad, make sure you smear it on your car a bit with the porter before turning it on or you'll have a mess from the product being slung around.
Always use the least aggressive pad & product first and work your way up.
