Default Quick question on buffers

After seeing the incredibly positive effects of machine buffing, I am wondering what you guys use or recommend.

I have been getting Griot's catalog for some time and their product (Porter Cable) looks quite good, but it's a bit spendy. Could do it if it's really worth it.

I see some other buffer products in the auto stores (waxmaster, etc.) and was wondering if they are viable options.

My car is a daily driver, not a show car, and I am not really interested in having it look like a showcar. But I do want it to look nice.

Opinions and comments welcome.

porter cable is one of the best- it is a single head unit, which makes it a bit less expensive than dual heads, but imo single heads are easier to use.
the machine that you are looking at in griots is a porter cable, but that would be the last place i would buy it from-

since it is also a sander, many tool companies carry it at much less price.
bought mine at:

i get most of my pads and parts for the machine here:

Don't buy one of of those auto store 9" plastic orbital polishers. You'll have trouble finding foam cutting pads for them and they really don't have the speed and power to break down polishes like DACP.

Around here, Lowe's sells the Porter Cable 7424. Then buy the pads from properautocare.com, griotsgarage.com, or somewhere like that.

I think it depends on how much time you spend detailing your car. If you only wash and wax your car once or twice a month, it may be hard justifying a Porter Cable purchase.

I have a Porter Cable and hate to imagine my life without one. It's made applying polishes and waxes so much easier, and I'm very happy with the results.

Yeah I seen the 7424 in lowes for $100 or $109, I'm thinking of buying one just so I don't have to listen to my air compressor when I try to use an air powered DA.
