Believe it or not I read that using peanut butter to get wax residue off trim parts is good. I imagine the oil breaks down the wax.
I haven't had the courage to try it on my CRV.
I don't think I would trust PB on the vinyl top though.

with pb, you work a small area with a brush- the pb breaks down and kinda dusts off like polish after a while
as with any process, if you try it be sure to try in a small area that does not show as much first- then expand once you are comfortable with it.
wash the area after the removal and then reprotect it.
