No pressure applying but sometimes you need a little pressure taking it off. I don't see how that could take off clear coat though.. Oh well..

The clear coat on this car is only two layers thin (I think). So if you rub it hard a few times, you might just thin it out in places to the point where you will start to rub off some color. I'm just speculating here and who knows, maybe your hood got missed when the clear coat step came.
