Default Shin Etsu Grease Substitute?????

I am trying to get a tube of Shin Etsu Grease from my dealer....

Apparently there is some sort of shortage and it is on national backorder. Handaacessories.com is sold out too. Parts dept told me it could be anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months for them to get it.... What a pain in the arse!!

Anyone know what Mercedes, BMW, and Porsche use on their seals?

I am not too crazy about the reviews on the GM product grease...

TIA

Awhile ago Viper told me about using a rubber safe silicone spray. I've been using it now for almost a year with great results. I use the spray made by Gunk and treat all the rubber above and below the car.

Hmmmmm? What are these bad reviews about the GM Silicone Emulsion? I've been using this for over a decade on all sorts of cars, including the S with on problems.
Yes, rubber safe silicone spray is an alternative but needs more frequent application as it does not adhere to the seals quite as well. However, it is fast, easy and quite simple so you could do this a bunch of times per year as opposed to once or twice with the "real" stuff.

Interesting...
I did a search on google for this stuff and apparently they use this as thermal grease for CPU's on PC's also......

Wow it is heavy duty!!!

If this is really the same stuff I bet I can get some at Radio Shack

"GM Silicone Emulsion" is not to be confused with "Silicone Emulsion" (I just did a search, too). The GM stuff is only for use in treating automotive rubber seals. Silicone Emulsion comes in a variety of types and uses and is not meant for auto use (window seals).

Viper,it looks to me like the silicone spray soaks into the rubber and helps keep soft and conditioned. True,I must apply it more often but I think it does as good a job as the grease.
