Default Shin-Etsu Question

Hi all. I was using some Shin-Etsu grease on the door seals and rubber today. I just put it onto a terry cloth and rub it in real good making sure to get even coverage. Today though I had mu buddy tell me I was doing it wrong. He said I am supposed to squeeze it out onto the rubber and leave a thicker layer of the grease on the rubber and then let it sit for a few hours, then go back and remove the excess. I said he was full of crap, but it got me thinking and i just wanted to make sure i was applying it correctly with my process. Please let me know if Im doing it right. Thanks in advance.

I've always done it the way you mentioned you did it... but I never really gave it a second thought. Interested to hear other people's opinions...

I put on some gloves, squeeze out some grease onto my fingers and massage on the seals, and then use a shop rag and wipe off the excess. It's just grease, you cant go wrong. It's all personal pref.

thats what i do too...
rub it on and leave it while i do the whole car and then go back to remove it after it has sat a bit.

the rubber will absorb what it needs and the rest can be wiped off. the method isnt critical.

, You gotta let it sit just for a bit. I am pretty sure rubber needs some time to absorb the product, it's not instant.

so to which parts do you apply Shin-Etsu? i gather the weather seals between the softtop and side windows, but what else?

what do you use on the hinges, etc of the softtop supports? mine have some rattles (not really squeaks, so not sure about WD-40) and for some reason thought this grease was for that...

any rubber seals in the car (doors, hood, trunk)

white lithium grease is what you want for the soft top frame

Any rubber parts can benefit from this grease.
