I put on some gloves, squeeze out some grease onto my fingers and massage on the seals, and then use a shop rag and wipe off the excess. It's just grease, you cant go wrong. It's all personal pref.
I put on a latex exam glove (the kind one finds in the medical supply shelf at a drug store). It made application very easy, far better than using a towel or foam applicator. One puts a very small dab of the grease on one's index finger and then rubs it into the seals with ones fingers. Very easy.
