Default Shinetsu Application

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if someone could tell me where exactly I am supposed to apply the grease onto? Pics would be a great aid, but a good description would suffice...

thanks!

So I applied a layer of Shinetsu after my last wash. I applied the stuff, waited a few hours, and wiped the excess with a clean cotton rag. That was several weeks ago. Though the rubber seals appear dry (no excess), I am constantly wiping off a blurry grease mark from the tops of my side windows. Everytime I roll them down and up, I gain a little more grease. Am I missing something?

sounds like you have plenty "in the pores".

apply and rub in well- let sit then wipe off excess.
probably better to have too much than not enough! your rubber is likely in good shape.

you could take a clean rag and rub the seals down again (especially where you see it coming from)- use a light pressure to push out the excess that is in the surface pores.

and report back!!

Anywhere that soft black rubber mates up to a rigid surface. That soft rubber forms the seal for your top and side windows.

For a REALLY good time, Shinetsu your steering wheel! (I kid I kid)

When I applied it, I literally opened the top halfway, quickly applied it, closed the top and propped it up (with a sponge resting on the windshield top) like 1/2 an inch above the windshield so it could 'dry'.

Which brings to mind a silly question. How do YOU apply Shinetsu? Top completely down? Top up? Somewhere's in the middle? I can't imagine leaving the top halfway up/down is good for the top mechanism, but I also don't think stalling it in that middle is overly harmful if done for a short amount of time (5-10mins tops).

good question-

imo, no problem having the top part way up- btw, easier to clean the plastic rear windows this way too... i clean the window with the top part up so i can get back there- then put it all the way up to do a finish buffing.

on converts with fabric tops (like my wife's bmw), i begin to put the top down- but only part way while i cover the car (with old sheets- cause the top preservatives are spray cans, like raggtopp's)- then put the top back up. same idea for the top if you want to do the rubber parts with the top not up (which i agree with).
should be no harm with the top part way up - as long as no one grabs onto it with any force, and you dont go driving around like that!

You can also apply it to the rubber seal inside your trunk lid... and for that matter, the seal along the bottom of your door. Let it sit for a while and then buff off the extra.
