Soft Top Renewal: Using Forever Black
Greetings all,
My 2005 soft top was looking kind of unloved, so looked to renew it. Shopped on the net and got Renovo Wash and Reviver, did the wash and was about to apply the Reviver product but noticed it was NOT FOR USE ON VINYL TOPS. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaghhhhhhhhhh!
Back to square one. Onto the net and found this:
Forever Black Black Top with Applicator
Before starting you will need:
latex gloves as it does get messy (these come in many sizes and colors and the modern ones aren't that horrible to use at all)
medium size painter's brush
small plastic cups for the brush
So once it arrived, rewashed to top and allowed it to dry and then started to apply it.
Noticed immediately that the supplied applicator wasn't going to reach the tough to get parts. I also noticed that the supplied applicator started to lose its shape almost immediately, but no matter as I would use it only for covering large areas. Luckily, I had on hand a new painter's brush that I was going to use with the Renovo Reviver, but never had the chance to do (see above).
I used the brush and small plastic cup to apply into the seams and hard to get nooks and crannies...
And then used the supplied applicator to do the wider spaces.
After allowing to dry for about an hour I noticed there were some 'blotchy' parts that didn't color properly, so, using the brush I tried to blend them in:
The next morning the blotchy bits appeared a touch darker then the surrounding parts, so I will go over the whole roof once more this evening and hope to have a uniform finish.
Here are the before and after (with slight blotched) images
Does it work?
Yes.
Final verdict tomorrow after second coat is applied. Stay tuned.

Nice write up Desert Wind !
It's apparent you put a lot of work into your post. Good pics, etc.
Curious - did your top fade because of the extreme sun in your area?

Second coat applied yesterday evening and most of the blotches have blended away.
For this, I used only the applicator and applied product liberally trying to work as uniformly as possible, covering as large an area as I could.
2nd coat dry
Has it made a difference? Yes, soft-top is now black again instead of the faded sandy beige
Next step would be to apply a coat of 303 protectant spray

^^ I was going to recommend the 303 before i read your post.
When I got my Ap1 first, I just cleaned the top very good, then applied 303. It was 2001 and didn't have any crazy fade or anything but 303 surely made a day and night difference.
I had a friend of mine use Back to Black on his e36's trim pieces. His complain was the it comes back after a few days. I used Peanut Butter on it, yes I am not kidding, Peanut Butter. It still looks pretty good after 1 month, the only thing is he never uses 303 or any other conditioner so that kind of starts to whiten up a bit.
Peanut butter does nothing but removes the oxidation like a rubbing compound, I was it thouroghly afterwards and then apply 303 on top of it.

Final with 303 Protectant
The 303 evened out any blotches. Nice product going on. Will see how long it lasts.
Overall, I am impressed as Forever Blacked renewed my soft-top quite nicely.

Looks good, ever tried ragg topp? I'm going to order both the 303 and the ragg topp for mine. It's new top but still would like to protect it from the uv rays as well as keep it nice and new looking!

The 303 was amazing.
Very easy to apply quick with great results. If your top is new, just 303 it. Don't bother with anything else.
