just kidding. I was considering getting one of those portable steam cleaners like on TV. Whaddaya think? anyone have one? worth it? works well?

really? you think spraying water in the engine bay is safer than steam?

You're not spraying the engine with a high pressure blast, more like letting it stream over the engine (i.e. no hose attachment). From what I understand, steam cleaning is a high pressure process and I would be afraid of getting water into the electrical components. By "streaming" the water over the engine and covering the major electrical components, you don't run much risk. I've cleaned my engine this way many times and have yet to run into a problem. However, I've never steam-cleaned my engine, so I can't say to the "safety" of this procedure. My take on it is that the method I'm using now works perfectly fine, even ont he dirtiest of engines, so why bother getting out another piece of equipment?

i just like steam OK!? its just the s2k engine bay has lots of 'pools' where water collects. i have a j's hood, so water flows on the air box cover, then into the front crossmember right below it. that thing looks like a tidepool. I figure steam is the best way to clean those areas.

That's cool. I personally haven't had any problems with the "pools" that you speak of. Either way, let us know how it goes. I'd be interested to see the results/ease of procedure.
