Surface scratches... Polish?
Hey guys new to the dtailers area.. no detailing skills but figure you would be the best to ask. So I visited my girlfirend at school, always paranoid out first thing in the morning to check on my car and sure enough all these scratches odd going up and down on my door, but anyways it seems like they can be polished out. I dont have any tools or anything so im asking is there or whats the best kind of compound I could use on a cloth? Thanks guys
Hi! For hand polishing, I would recommend the new Meguiar's consumer-line products: SwirlX, ScratchX 2.0, and Ultimate Compound (available at WalMart or local auto stores like Advanced Auto). If you are only going to be working on that one door, you might first try ScratchX 2.0 (be sure to get the 2.0 version). For instructions on how to use it, I would suggest that you visit Meguiar's Online and ask the brethren. They can save you a lot of grief and aggravation.
Wash your car first. Then be sure to do a TEST SPOT first. Make sure you can make one small spot look good before you attempt the entire door. Use a foam applicator. After removing the scratches, or at least improving them, you might consider polishing the entire car with SwirlX.
When complete, you would then want to apply a wax or sealant over the polished area; indeed, if you haven't waxed your car in a good while, you might as well wax the entire car.
Good luck!
Cheers,
Al
