It was a company that dealt mostly on furniture. They were very well respected in doing carpet cleaning/restoration and decided to get into leather...not a very good move for them.

Thanks for the insight there. As far as you not liking the results, what exactly didn't you like? Was it just a matter of the finish that it left, i.e. too shiny, slippery, greasy, etc? Or was it an issue of it didn't actually protect the leather (or worse, it damaged it)?

And the best way to apply it to the top is to do so in the evening, apply it gnerously and smooth it out with a foam applicatior and not worry about the "white look" it may give in some areas, and go to bed. In the morning, it will be soaked in, the top will be perfectly black, and it will be well protected.

Thank you Richard,

I had my S for almost 2 years (bought on Nov-03), it had been washed at carwash every 2-3 weeks, but it never had the top treated with anything. I will go out and buy this 303 stub (at Pepboys or Kragen or Walmart ?) and follow your directions.

TR-S2K:

You bring up another matter worth mentioning. At least around here, the "standard" auto parts places don't have 303 (for some reason I don't understand). Around here, to buy it locally, you have to go to a boat and marine store. A friend in a near-by city found some at his Ace Hardware, but don't count on it. You can order it at www.performanceproducts.com if you like. Their web site appears to be a bit screwed up at the moment, but you can call them at 1-800-243-1220.

Thanks,
Richard

The results were what got to me. It looked and felt like some products we have tested that have softened up the finish and caused premature wear. Formal tests to be out soon.

Thanks again Richard,

There is an Ace Hardware store near my home. Actually, this Ace Hardware is much closer to my home than any autoparts store.

I think www.performanceproducts.com sells most parts for Mercedes Benz, am I wrong ?

Have a great weekend.

Can you use viynlex instead of 303. It has sunblock in it as well. That is what I have now, but will get 303 if it really matters?

Thanks,

Jon

Superfly05:

I have never used Vinylex, so I can't say. If it has UV protection of SP 40 and contains no silicones, it might well be just fine.

Thanks,
Richard

TR-S2K:

Performance Products does sell some make-specific parts and accesories for MBs and some other German cars, but not s2ks. However, they also do sell generic car care products, like 303.

Thanks,
Richard

I find that using 303 is great and the finish is amazing but so it does not run onto the windows when it rains and it does quite a bit in the UK. I suggest that you apply with an applicator and wait 15 minutes and then with a WW / Big blue wipe to remove the excess - works great and looks great
