Default Wax painted bumper covers

This may be a basic question, but I'm very ignorant when it comes to washing and waxing cars. Should I wax the painted plastic parts of a car (ie. front and rear bumpers, etc.) just like the painted metal parts? If not, how do I give these parts a nice shine and protection like the waxed metal? The directions of several waxes and polishes that I looked at said not to use the product on "metalized plastic". What is this? Thanks in advance.

The bumpers are plastic, doors, finders trunk are steel, hood is aluminum. But on the surface the paint is all the same. So yes wash and wax all painted surfaces the same. We don't have any "metalized plastic" on are car. It is a chrome plated look on plastic parts.
