Default Wheels turning black

Hey guys,

It may sound stupid, but my front wheels turn black after i drive my car for a while. Is it because of the brake dust or what ??

I clean them everyday but after every drive, i hate to see them BLACK again.

Any suggestions. I only have 25k miles on my car so is it time to change the brakes ?

Brake dust - no real way of getting rid of it. Here's some stuff that can help though:

Brake pads - some brake pads are designed to create less dust like ceramic ones.

Sealant/Wax - like wax for your paint, there's sealants for wheels that can make it harder for brake dust to stick and easier to remove. Make sure you thoroughly clean your wheel before hand though.

I had this problem when I got my car. Then when it came to replace brake pads I went to my friend who is a mechanic and he got me a set that have no brake dust. They weren't cheap, but they are awesome not only for the lack of brake dust, but the stopping power as well. I can't remember the brand off hand, but I can talk to him and let you know.

I entered the part number online and it appears they are Wagner Thermo-Quiet Semi Metallic pads. The part number is MX829 for AP2 front pads. I actually used to sell these when I worked at a car parts store in college, but never believed any of the "parts store hype" that I heard about them. Now that I have had these on for 3,000 miles, I am extremely happy with them. They actually are not that expensive, around the $50 price range online and obviously more if you go to the local auto parts store (if I remember correctly we used to sell these for around $70).

I have the HAWK ceramic pads on mine, very little dust but crazy stopping power.

I agree. Also, wheel wax is awesome for not allowing brake dust to accumulate and dust can be rinsed off with a hose. It also polishes nicely.

Impossible to say. The mileage at which brakes need to be replaced vary. Check the remaining thickness of the pads.

I try to wash my car whenever possible, (once a week, yes...cleaning whore). Try buying sonax (it's expensive but when its on sale, take advantage of it) and a wheel brush to get maximum shine
