Has anyone noticed specific places that rust on your car? Of course anywhere with a chip in the paint needs to be addressed, but are there other key areas to protect?

as an owner of a 73 240z, and the holder of 2 northern s2ks that ive looked over, because the dealership gave me a uncertified car, and this is what ive found

the rubber screw in things that screw in the trunk and hood, rust starts where hole is for the rubber coils to screw into the body

there is supposed to be four rubber body plugs that the dealer is supposed to put in after shipping, and often doesnt, and can put all types of contaimanets in the body spaces. under the car, there is 3 per side that comes from the factory, and if thats all you have then your missing the other 4.

i found rust starting on the battery tray frame rail area. and side.

also, any bolts that ive taken out and found to be rusty, i wire wheel them and paint them too. (one of the air box bolt washers on the cross beam to be rusty, and the battery tray is removable, and some rust began there too.) id remove the black plastic cover over the hepa filter and make sure that area is always clean and dry too. you have to remove the wiper arms to get at it

i found that the fuel and bake lines where they enter to the black plastic carrage in the back, just before that, were corroded.

ive found alot of foliage inbetween soft top and were it mounts to the body, by the seats, only seeable when the top is down

as long as you keep your car inside, other than some pm here and there, you should be ok. ive concluded that the "rusty" s2k was due to the fact it wasnt garaged over the winter.

This is better posted in "Wash and Wax" forum if you're only looking to "protect" the car. If you want to know how to repair rust, then post it in Under the Hood; Technical if you want to detail the steps on how to do it.
Moving now.
