Default Engine light on? WTF!

Well I seen this turn on this morning on my way to work. Also I have my "Maintenance requeired" light on also. Someone told me I should change my oil every 3000 miles. I never had a Oil change ever since i owned my S.

LMAO i am kidding.

On a serious note I do have my engine light & Maintenance on. I am thinking I may have a exhaust leak? I am pretty low and rub on every speed bump.

Is there anyway to figure out my code to see why it is on? Do I have to pay for that type of service? I will be visiting a mechanic here in San Marcos this week so any suggestions would be appretiated.

Thank you Castro

Lol very funny AJ.

Well I will have to pay a visit to a auto center. So would they just provide me a number/code or will they tell me exactly the diagnosis?

I heard they don't loan out the scan tools anymore...

To reset the MAINTENANCE REQUIRED light (As indicated by the light that says, "MAINT REQU'D"):
- Have key inserted in ignition but in the OFF or LOCKED position.
- Push and hold the trip reset button on the right bottom corner of your gauge clutster.
- Turn key to full ON position and continue holding the button till the light goes off.

If they dont I have a scanner and it will tell exactly what the problem is. It could be something simple, or something much worse so figure out asap what it is. Easy things you can check are all the vac lines, the two vac lines that go down to the checkvalve on the airbox come off more commonly than people think. It could also be something stupid like not tightening the gas cap enough/properly. Sometimes you can get the cap to click but if its not treaded correctly it wont be tightening.

Also, you can use a paperclip and jump the number 9 and 4 terminals in the obd2 port, the light will then blink a certain amount of times (youd count the blinks to determine which code it is) then see which code corresponds to the number of blinks. If you do this though, MAKE 100 PERCENT CERTAIN that you put the paperclip ends in the CORRECT terminals otherwise you can blow a fuse or cause ECU electrical damage.

Ps---a lot of people will tell you to just disconnect the battery/reset the light, but that is not recommended as you will then not know if the problem was/is major and could cause more problems.
