Unhappy Car Won't Start Thread 9000

Hey y'all!

I wish I could compose a formal introduction but I've got sort of a problem...

Its been an ongoing issue but recently has become more frequent. I'm no mechanic but almost am after what this car has needed in the recent months.

Anyway, not starting. When I press the button it clicks normally but no go. There is however a sound near the valve cover. Not sure if that would be the fuel pump. It continues to "whir" as you hold the button.

Sometimes I could wiggle the shifter and press clutch a little and it would magically start.

Got it used and prev owner may have had remote start as a wire has been modified near pedals, somehow allowing me to never press the clutch to start the car (unless it decides not to start). Not sure if this is maybe an aftermarket Ino loser hiding somewhere either.

Oddly enough it only seems to happen after driving at least 30 minutes. I'm in FL. It's not hot here yet but maybe heat soak is playing a role. Yet, the car has been sitting 6+ hours and will not start even with my shifter click.

Ive scoured the multiple threads and am unable to come up with a conclusion. AFAIK batt and starter are good since it's been in the shop for other stuff which was misfire related.

the only difference between now and two weeks ago is my mechanic noticed the little white pad on the clutch pedal was missing. Looks like it pushes a button. He put one on and it seems to have worsened this issue. But then my cruise control started working so maybe the button was never being pushed (don't know why one would remove it unless it's part of the other thing someone changed, maybe for remote start)

anyway, figured I'd see if there is something I can try before forking over for a long distance tow...

please excuse my formatting as I'm on a phone.

thank you for your time.

Sometimes it would start in 5 seconds of wiggling shifter and pressing clutch but now that it happens more it sometimes takes 5 minutes for something to magically sync up. I've been trying for 20 minutes this time and am sitting here trying to go home lol

Tried swapping a fuse.. no change. Removed the pad off clutch pedal since it was always missing as previously stated . No change

Edit button should be at lower right of your posts. Maybe, your clutch interlock switch is faulty.

Yeah something is wrong with the wiring. Someone came by and investigated but we had to rerig it into the messy wiring since correcting it took us a step backward. Running push start worked so there's that. Somehow I don't have edit capability. Only have quick reply, quote, & multi quote.

anyway, it'll get properly checked out at LHT Performance since they're iin my area.

thank you for responding!

That whirring sound is your starter spinning but not popping out to engage the flywheel ring gear. Starter needs replacement.

Whoa, missed that. Another "Reading Comprehension" failure.

Check all wire connections to the starter and battery. Clean and tight. See if that helps.

I would say, bang the starter with a hammer but unfortunately it's pretty buried in this car. If you can get the car in the air, see if you can hammer on it a bit from the underside and loosen up the pinion.
