actually they're iframes so they don't slow the loading of the usable portion of the page. the whole page draws at the same speed with or without them. but when the page is done loading the iframes load next and you'll notice that the browser still shows the page is loading but they don't interfere with the usage of the page.

just seen this thread... surely being such a unique car, just about anyone who 'gets' the S2000 will have the sense to look for owner groups.

why would an S2000 forum be of interest to a Ford owner, or vice versa?
just about everyone i know who uses facebook have NO interest in car owner forums.

I've adblocked the facebook link, but imo it's just more internet spam that i shouldn't need to filter which i have to apply the same filter 4-5 times over across the various machines i use.
and now it's that little bit more scrolling when i access s2ki on my mobile.

I'd of rather seen the time cthree spent to research, implement and test this silly addition with fixing the search function. regular search downtime and spending his time in areas adding 'functionality' just gives me more of a reason not to purchase subscription.

i'd of preferred to see cthrees' time spent on considering OpenID or RSS implementation if new features were to be added.

just my opinion ofcourse i don't have a facebook account so this new feature is (was, now i've adblocked it) is less than useless

cthree determines the needs and time he spends on those needs, based on the priorities of the business side of the site.

The new search beta was out on monday https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=784409 so, he was able to do two things at once. cthree may not have spent as much time on FB than you think.

Don't have a major problem with it personally

However I have a similar issue to SOHC. I work for a big international bank so this will probably affect a few people. Facebook is blocked so although I can load S2ki I now have a warning at the bottom of the page where the FB content would be with an internet usage warning.

Only a matter of time now then that they'll block S2ki as well

People spend to much time at work on websites as a whole. I wonder how much time is lost due to web surfing. I am sure there are many companies that already block s2ki for various reasons.

Everyone is lucky s2ki is not blocked for the admins on the site. The spammers would go crazy..

Some employers only block during 'core' work hours and i'd imagine quite a few people work shifts or in my case, where my job is essentially a monitoring 'fix it if it breaks' role I'd go mad if I had no internet at work.

Easy enough for me, i'm the one that runs the IT for the company I work for - we don't ban facebook at work but people are 'encouraged' to not let it interfere with their work.

Problem with banning it is you then drive it onto laptops /. netbooks / iphones and now with iPhone tethering you don't need your works machine to surf the net.

Personally ( and my boss seems to agree) i'd rather everything was kept where it can be seen and lightly monitored with a quiet word in the ear of those would prefer to do more surfing than working.

Your eyes are playing tricks on you. Not only does the FB stuff not have any effect on the time to load the page but in the past week I've REDUCED overall page load time by over 40% on average and cut the average size of the pages by almost the same amount.

I think this is a case seeing what you believe.

@Bass: The FB like buttons are not our pages. They are loaded in iframes as pages from facebook. If you act on the buttons by clicking them and you login to Facebook then you are operating on Facebook's privacy policy. If you don't act on them you are acting on ours. We send no data to Facebook. They work no differently than banner ads. If you don't click them then they don't do anything.
