Default Slow/non-existent forum response time

Without resorting to a poll, I was wondering how many other have had response time problems with the forums? Ever since we upgraded to the new look/software a couple of months back, I've experienced problems (which I feel are getting worse).

When I clicked on a forum from the old board, the thread list popped up almost immediately. With the new board, I sometimes wait 10-15 seconds before it pops up...I would say roughly 10-20% of the time, no threads appear at all. I usually see the screen blank and the header graphics appear (everything above the Home|Forum FAQ's|Today's... graphic, sometimes I also see S2000 International>Forum name... appear below it) indicating a new page is loading, but my browser (NetScape) shows 'Done'. I've waited for up to 5 minutes in the hopes the server is just thinking about my request, but no luck. I have to click back/forward several times before the thread list appears.

I'm not scolding the board or cthree, just wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same issues...if so, it should be checked into...if not, I suppose it's time to reinstall everything on my end.

Thanks guys and gals!

Yep, I have the same problems here, often I get a blank thread and I have to hit reload to get the posts. Also I've noticed that when I'm waiting for pages to load, there's a message saying that it's connecting to photopoint. Maybe people have to many graphics attached to their signatures?

yes, the only time I notice the slow down is when photopoint is acting up.

IE6 has some newer features to block the photopoint stuff if you are interested.

Geez, I thought I was the only one. I've got cable and was using Netscape for the forum. It would work for a few minutes and then I would wait and wait and wait. If I "clicked" out and came back in it would work for another few minutes, then no more. I've emailed C3 a couple of times and he offered some suggestions and did some fiddling on his end and me on my end but it didn't help. I finally went to IE only for the S2000 forum. I continue to use Netscape for everything else. It's a pain not being able to link up to threads from my email since my email links go to Netscape. I think it's my computer, so when I get a new one, I hope this is resolved.

It's been slower for me since the current new look forums came on last month. I thought maybe it was just because I'm behind the times with my ol' ISP connection 56K modem, and everyone else has this cable, DSP, or T1 stuff. It is a bunch slower than other forums I look at occasionally. Oh well, I guess I got the message that I should be out and about doing other things, and not spending all my free time on the computer.

The only thing I can suggest is to enable you browser's option to use image placeholders or defer image downloading or similar feature. Basically it will draw the text and fill in the graphics as they come in. You will see most of the meat and the images will come in as they can.

This happens with photopoint but many other servers too like ICQ. Remember most of the graphics exept for avatars, buttons and the header are not downloaded from the the S2000 International server. They come from other places on the net. which may be slow, broken or offline.
