Why not at least have the mods, when locking the status update, post a message as to why? As of now they usually either just delete it or lock it with no explanation. Not very productive if you ask me.
Something short and simple like "Please read this: -link to thread HondaGal just made-" and a lock would get the job done.
Moderating this forum should not turn into a full time job, as it seems you want it to. They are doing the best they can for the price they are working for. There is always going to be someone who tries to break the rules.

What I don't get is that you got what you wanted on my very first reply yet you continue to ask for me to post that you can't use the status update to post for sale when I already did, right at the top of this topic in post #3 and I reapeated it many times over in successive replies.

The rules are simple and absolute. They apply to everything, everywhere. What part of "You may not post any ad to sell any product or service, new or used" confuses you?
You're taking this too personally. I'm not attacking you. I was simply trying to provide a point of view from a member's side. I know you wrote those rules knowing full well what you meant, but not everyone does and I could easily see possible confusion. The footnote/exception could easily be overlooked and the rule could read as no for sale threads anywhere on the site, end of story... but then that would be confusing because it's obvious that there are for sale threads, so then one might think that's an old outdated rule or something... And even if they did see the footnote, one might think "hmmm if its ok in the marketplace, then what if I just post a link to the marketplace in my status" or "hmmm well statuses are probably an exception too. (maybe it's an old rule, since there weren't any statuses previously)" etc. etc. there are tons of possibilites for misconception.

My point is that people are stupid, and can VERY easily misinterpret things or make assumptions. So why not specifically make a rule against something, to the point where it can't be misinterpreted?

Again, I know you feel like I'm attacking you, but I was genuinely just trying to make something that coouldn't be misinterpreted and that could be directly linked to if someone asked about it or did it.

To answer your final question, I guess I think it's the footnotes/exception that would likely confuse people.

I realize you're under a lot of stress with all that's going on, but I've been one of the few sticking up for you and the site since day one of the update. Please don't get agressive towards me for simply trying to help and not understanding your apprehension to quickly make a rule more specific and clear.

I apologize if I've seemed overly pushy through the thread... I guess I just kinda get that way when I don't understand the reasoning behind something...

Regards,
-Will

You are right. I am taking this too personally. I apologize. HondaGal is looking after it.

I would love to dig into the new stuff but I'm still dealing with just the basics. Making these changes to something fundamental like the rules/tos only magnifies my present deficit.

HondaGal should be addressing your concerns anyway.
