Default What's Happening To This Community?

I came from a Honda background, and cars in general. Moved up for a base Civic, to a built Si, to my S. But some of the weirdness I see in the community bothers me. It's almost like an elitist thing with some of us (not myself, nor will I name names). I flat out say one owner bash other owners because they couldn't afford to buy his "for sale" car, going to the extent of calling them too poor. Is that what's come of us? To make fun of those that don't have what we do? People are beginning to ask exorbitant price for HTs, just because. Certain companies are supporting parts from Japan that aren't worth it, and when asked about it, they call those who bash the parts too uneducated to understand.

I try to see the right in this, but it seems the S2000 community is in ways, becoming like the Civic community. Blind hate (I hate on hellaflush cars, I'm not perfect), derisiveness for those who can't justify or afford Volks, (insert high dollar wheel here), or anything else. Obedience to automatically buy body parts simply for the JDM factor, even if they do nothing, are overpriced, or unneeded.

What's going on with this?

This community started out with older men and women buying a premium $35,000+ sports car. Now it's a 10,000 dollar sports car being bought by kids in high school w/ part time jobs...you do the math. That said...this thread will not become a bitch fest.

Pretty true on that account. I paid around that for mine. However, neither you nor I are old(er), by too much.

If you don't want it to become a bitchfest, don't let it. I started this thread for opinions and comments. Should it get out of hand, feel free to delete/lock/etc. I'll be away on training for a bit anyways (hence why I'm never around for C&C anymore).

This is a sad state of affairs if its the case. When the s2000 was out I couldn't afford one. And when I could afford one (by 2008) I totally forgot they made them. (I wasn't into cars then) but honestly, I was hoping to find a refined community.

Now that kids own the S2000, that means I must sell my S2000 and buy a GTR or a Frs because "kids" cannot afford those cars.

It is kinda ignorant to blame it on kids, yeah they are stupid and do stupid things, but who are we to say what they do to there cars. Besides, its the internet, people will always be assholes.

I feel there's a lot of ageism on the board. Members that are "young" are thought to be less intelligent or that their opinion just doesn't hold any weight. Being 27, I feel as though I'm still considered too "young" to own this car (based on the community), even though there are members that are as young as 17/18. Not to mention several threads I've seen in relation to "OG" crews and best join years and how there has been a decline in the quality of members.

All I know is that if there is going to be such a divide in who or what people consider quality members and others are alienated based on their age or lack thereof, then eventually there will be no more s2000 community or s2ki.

To me, I feel as though the community is more divided up by function and form, not so much age. That may just be me, though. I've seen a lot of arguments on the hellaflush threads and other sorts of threads and the root of the argument is that the group dedicated to function thinks that hellaflush is just stupid and the form group is usually on the defensive side, trying to justify what they're doing to their cars. I know it seems like I am rather biased toward the form crowd, but with that being said, I am rather fond of functionality and track my car to try push my S2000 to its fullest potential. Age doesn't really seem to play an important part in all of this other than the fact that most people that prefer function over form tend to be older (even though I am 20 and know other young people like me).

Always consider the source. There have always been and always will be people like this. I'm not saying it's ok but it's a bit much to assume that this is a trend based on a single data point.

Just because? It's supply and demand, like anything else.

I'm really not surprised given the shift in the ownership of the vehicle. Things change. If you want to do something about it then keep quality discussions alive and get the mods in when you see the type of behavior that you mention. This thread isn't going to stop those that you're complaining about.

It's not just the kids and the reduced cost of entry, but the car has been out of production for 3 years now, the community is naturally going to fade a bit during that time.

Despite the decline, it's still a great community with great people and years of accumulated knowledge on the car.
