What's Happening To This Community?
Like others have alluded to, there's a big divide between two groups: generally/relatively older owners with stock S2Ks or properly modified S2Ks that use correct grammar and appreciate the car's purpose AND generally/relatively younger owners with "hellaflush" and "dope" nonsense modifications that don't know/use correct grammar and don't get the car.
The divide is mainly a result of S2Ks getting older and less expensive. I find the second group sort of embarrassing to the community, but will never let my love for S2Ks waver.

Certain companies are supporting parts from Japan that aren't worth it, and when asked about it, they call those who bash the parts too uneducated to understand.
rather, those who bashed the parts based on their prices alone simply because they couldn't justify the purchase (whether they can't afford it or they don't think its worthwhile) without even consider how much development hours spent on producing the item.
It is also of my personal opinion that the s2000 is a fanatic car and deserves quality parts.Example: ASM 3way coilovers for $18,000 is completely over priced and no where near worth it imo.
A set of KW v3s at $2000...worth it
Lots of interesting discussion here. It's always unfortunate when you get negative threads, bashing, flaming, and whatnot - I think age, personalities, and a whole host of factors contribute to this manner of posting. Some things are other's opinions that need to be tolerated/recognized, while other stuff does cross the line. It's what you get when a lot of different people come together.
That being said, this still is one of the better forums online. The site has a ton of information, and a LOT of people willing to help out and contribute. Props to the moderators and admins, they are good at taking out what needs to go and keeping this place a mainly positive and informative environment for enthusiasts. I'm the same as many others - I keep coming back because of the awesome people here, it's a great place to learn about the S and have some fun conversation!

I think no matter what car you own or even what forum you happen to be on there will always be a divide. Being a 19 year old owner I'm often being told to "Thank my Daddy" for my car when in reality I'm in the Air Force. I thank Afghanistan and deployments for my car. Overall the community will evolve as you have people keeping their car bone stock, people dropping 15k to Mugenize, and people making their car hellafush/illest/dope. All in all this is a great community, I've learned an incredible amount of information about my car because of S2ki, and I'll always be here for as long as I own my car.

1. Car is more affordable so therefore more people can get their hands on them easier as opposed to when they were new at $35,000'ish. This car is the top of the line Honda (2nd to the NSX but that's labeled Acura here...) and a lot of younger people like Hondas. As a result, once this car became affordable, it shouldn't come as a surprise that the younger crowd has started to snatch them up. It's for this reason I recently sold my STi to get another S2000... I knew finding a mint, unmolested example was going to get harder and harder as time went on due to this exact topic we're discussing. I can always get another STi later since they're still produced.
2. To the quote I have above... I think it is a bit of older vs. younger, but not entirely. I do agree that there are younger enthuisists that enjoy the car and drive it as it was meant to be with tasteful mods that are functional, but there are those who prefer the hellaflush movement too which would fall under your poser description. By the nature of the movement, it's inherently an old vs. young situation because the hellaflush trend is a young person thing, it's most likely not something you'll see someone 40+ do to their car. In that way I think it is old vs. young, but again, not entirely.
3. I think oyagi hit the nail on the head... this situation is true of any car that was once out of someone's reach but over time has become affordable and therefore the demographic changes. That said, we all got the same car because we all love it and think it's great. What we choose to do with it from there is up to the individual, but at the core of it all we all enjoy the same thing.
4. If people are acting immature or rude, it doesn't matter who they are, how old they are, etc... it needs to be addressed (and always is) by our moderators to keep a friendly/fun community. I think this is more along the lines of what the OP was getting at when he started this thread.
5. The last point I'll mention is that hellaflush (or hellafail as I prefer to call it, in case you weren't sure as to where I stood on it lol) is simply a trend... and will pass with time. For whatever reason, people feel this desperate need to do something different in order to stand out and separate themselves from others in the car scene. So much so that you start to see ridiculous things such as this hellaflush trend, clown colored wheels, rusted hoods, and so on... all of which the average person would say is a f*cked up car, but it's actually intended by these people in an effort to be different.
Newsflash to those who fit in any of those categories: the reason you see people do a lot of the same things is because we've all already been there and done that and figured out what looks the best and works the best and that's why it's popular. It's not a bad thing, it's just all been figured out already. Let's rewind the tape, I'm sure the guys in the muscle car days of the 60's/70's wanted to do different things to their cars so they modded them and tweaked them to improve them. I'm sure other guys in the scene did similar things to them... did that make the guy who did it first feel like he had to do something drastic to stand out now since someone else has the same thing? No, he didn't. I'm sure there were some exceptions to the rule and some people did go to some lengths to differentiate themselves, but most of the time with those cars you see the same type of work done to them across numerous examples because it's the best route to take for the car and it works well. They didn't feel the need to destroy the functionality of their vehicle in an effort to be different.
I could go on and on but I'll leave it at that.
Bottom line, at the end of the day we all have the same car and people will do what they want to them. Additionally, modding aside, you will have younger people (and older) that may be more obnoxious or just can't behave, they'll be checked by the community and the mods. Just the nature of the beast... the one thing we do all have in common though is our love for the S2000.

I have to say I still find this site's members worlds more mature than some of the other honda boards.
Without fail over the past 9 plus years I have been here I have asked for answers, how toos, given my feedback, and learned a whole lot about my car. This is a wonderful spot to hang for S2000 info. My bacon has been saved by "how toos" and advice. My opinions have been discussed mostly with respect. I have no complaints, this is by far the best car I have owned and I have owned 24 cars!
