I'm kinda of unsure why Honda didn't offer Red/Tan and White/Blue (in the US) or White/Black. Its a very oddball color choice to have White/Tan. Its not a common thing on a sports car.

They did...

But I'm glad Honda only offers White/Tan now, makes my S2000 the rarest one ever made.

2000 - 2003 = Raw, only car ever produced with a 9,000RPM redline and 120HP/Liter in its time.

2004 + = Updated looks, but performance is a compromise to satisfy the redneck need for torque and comfort. Only the US got the F22C, the rest of the world got the original F20C.

I would keep your 2002.

Where did you get your data from that performance has been compromised? Last I hear the 04+ puts down more HP and TQ and the revised suspension helps keep the rear planted. And if I'm not mistaken the increased TQ = increased acceleration.

As to the original question, I would just test drive a 04 or 05 and drive yours back to back and let us know your opinion.

Just to offer my .02:

A friend of mine, who is used to Corvettes, test drove a pre 04 and an 04 and said that the driving differences were minimal. He did like the way they handled over the vette.

I think for the experienced driver that can notice small diff. then there might be a choice to be made. Otherwise it is just in the body style differences.

As long as you stay with and S I don't think you will be dissapointed!

Higher torque does not necessarily indicate increased acceleration.

Otherwise my neighbor's F350 would be running 12's.

There is a reason why Honda only offers the "other" engine (F22C) here in the US market and not in their home market of Japan or anywhere else in the world. And I bet its not because Honda is being nice to us Americans.

Don't get me wrong, I like the 2004+ S2000's. However if I was forced to replace my current S2000 for whatever reason (God forbid), I would not be getting a new one for the sole reason that it doesn't have the special 9,000RPM redline.

The softer rear suspension was made because of all those who could not handle the S's all around tight suspension and would take a turn and end up in ditches or in front yards......If you know how to drive well, you shouldn't have a problem with the 02 plus you have the 9k redline which is very unique amongst cars on the road......but like Deiger said you won't be dissapointed with either.....
