Default 60% WTF?

Purchased my LBP MY07 w/ 15 miles in the Odo..
Currently, 1917 only and its reporting a 60% oil life

Q... Is that normal? I only drive my car about 20 miles per day.
Q... What is a good % to start changing the oil?

I know I should post up on the "Under the Hood" section, but might as well post in my local chapter...

Peace out...

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

You should check your oil at every fill up...

The new oil life indicator takes into account how the car is driven. If you have a lot of short trips, it will calculate earlier oil changes than if you do a lot of highway cruising. I'd do my first oil change somewhere between 3-4k miles, and then when the indicator gets down to 20-30% after that.

A 3k oil change is usually wasteful. I have my oil tested when I drain it and nearly always, there is plenty of life left in it after 4-5k miles. I don't use anything fancy - Mobil 1 10W/30 w/ PCX Honda filters. Of course, my '03 doesn't have the oil life indicator, so I just go by prior experience.

And yes, check the oil level regularly and top-off as necessary.

but it depends on how he drives the car too. i bought the car used, got oil change, (beat on it a lot) 4K miles later, oil was all gone and i had the engine replaced

Short trips would be a description of how I drive my car on a weekly basis, long trips on the weekends. I just did not expect for it to report a 60% life only after 1900 miles of use .

Thank you for your feedback and your assistance with my Q.
