Default Evolution Driving School - 11 & 12 Dec 2004

**** IMPORTANT UPDATE ****

We must postpone the Evolution Performance Driving School. There is a conflict with the December 11-12 date, so we are now requesting a January 22-23 make-up date. Please see my post at the end of this thread for further information.

**** THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS NO LONGER VALID ****
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
OK everyone, here's the latest update on plans to bring an Evolution Driving School to South Florida.

The CONFIRMED dates are 11 & 12 December. That is the only weekend available in the next couple of months that doesn't conflict with a holiday or other autocross events. The Hialeah site has now been confirmed. Darrin DiSimo is leading this effort, and he will likely be one of the instructors.

The Phase 1 school will be taught on Saturday and the Phase 2 school on Sunday. If you have never taken one before, do Phase I, and add Phase II for a complete experience. The cost is $225 per day, or $400 for both days. Class size is limited to 12 students per school and you will be working with 2 instructors, so that's a great ratio. If there's enough interest, a second Phase I school can be held on the same site on Saturday.

Please set this weekend aside, it is an excellent opportunity to get a lot of seat time and hone your autocross skills. I did a Phase I and Phase II course last January and will do this one too. It's that good!

Phase 1 and Phase 2
Joshua (CoralDoc)
Allan (allan-s2000)

Charles (healandtoe)
Kim (Jerseygirl)
Stacia (staish)

Rich, perhap someone will let you use their car. Come on, you can offer some nice favors! You know how the club loves them! (Not those kind of favors, you sickos!)

I looked on the web site and it says the phase 1 is to build on the existing skills and to improve the times. I am 16 years old and i got my s 4 months ago. MY back end has comeout on me a few times and scared the out of me. Is this only to help you improve your times in autocross type races or will this teach me how to drive and control my car the right way. Will this teach me how to avoid loosing control and how to gain it once it has been lost or is this course just going to teach how to take the turns fastest to gat the best time in autocross

to build on the existing skills and to improve the times.
yes, if you have any current skills. (not a personal attack). If you have been autocrossing you may have some basic knowledge/ skills. This will build on that experience and knowledge.
help you improve your times in autocross type races
It WILL DEFINITELY help improve your times in autoX
teach me how to drive and control my car the right way.
It WILL DEFINITELY help general car handling skills in a BIG BIG way.
Will this teach me how to avoid loosing control and how to gain it once it has been lost
Both. Yes. Most likely, all of us for one reason or another will lose control of our car at least once. If you autocross, you will lose control of your car during an event or practice numerous times. By doing this in a controlled environment with instructors watching and sharing their knowledge and experience, it is much safer, and much less expensive than doing this on the street.
$400 for two days of instruction is much less costly than the repair bill that may result from trying the same maneuvers during street trials on your own.
how to take the turns fastest to get the best time in autocross
oh yeah, BABY!!

I've taken the Ph1 and 2 classes, and attended some practice sessions with Evolution, and I would highly recommend taking both, and taking them often. You will hear them tell you about national caliber drivers that attend these Evolution Schools on a regular basis. Not to mention the fact that you will have a blast! Much more driving than you would experience during ANY autocross event, and much more 'spirited' driving than you could ever experience on the street without getting a ticket.
I would suggest driving on street tires, as they will last longer through the class, and given the number of runs you will get, a full set of new race rubber will be toast by the end. If you have race rubber, you may want to put them on toward the end during some practice sessions, but the skills learned are for the driver. The car and tires are just the mediums with which these skills are applied.

Well i can do 1 of two things. I can either purchace an OEM front lip and HKS springs or i can go two driving school. Im leaning toward the school but the mods are looking good too.

Josh, You can add Fred (my brother-in-law with the Lotus) and myself to the list. You have my number so let me know when and where we send the $$. I'l be interested in Phase I and II. I'll have to ask Fred what he wants to do.

Thanks.

That's a real bummer about the conflict with HIN. But given the choice between learning to drive better and showing off a pretty car ... well I know which one I'd choose. I don't know how often HIN comes around, but these schools don't often come to our part of the state - only about every 3 or 4 years - so take advantage of it while you can.

I'll know more about the venue and dates in a few more days. When the event is confirmed, you can pay Evolution directly to hold your spot.

Penrod knows what he's talking about. He's gotten very fast this year and regularly kicks my butt when we're driving the same car. All I can figure is it's because he's done more Evolution Schools than I have .

healandtoe - the skills you learn at this school will stay with you for as long as you drive. The cosmetic lip and possibly helpful springs are only good for this one car. I'd say spend your money on yourself. I KNOW that you'll be a faster and better driver from the school than you would be from any mod you can do for $400.

allan - Great! Stay posted to see when it's all confirmed.
