Although i would really like to see an article or some sort of explanation on why these roll bars are not allowed
Because the way to get approval is testing, and Japanese companies could care less about safety testing with American sanctioning bodies. People here find a local shop to build them a cage, they don't import cages and bolt them into race cars.

Cusco cages are not just show cages, there are plenty of cars that compete with the cusco cages. I believe the aj-r car has one. He competes in a variety of different events. What's wrong with bolting in a cage, using high tensile bolts? No offense I would rather have a bolt than most of the welds made here in South Florida. I have seen to many broken welds!

So why are they not allowed?

Agreed, there may not be something structurally wrong with the Cusco cages (who really knows), however the reason they are not allowed is because they have not been safety tested and SFI/FIA approved. Just like GReddy spends money to CARB certify turbo kits, Cusco would have to spend money to certify their cages.

Regarding the AJ-R car, the sanctioning bodies they run with (like Redline Time Attack) are not very strict when it comes to safety so that is why the get away with it. I've seen/heard of NASA/SCCA tech officials actually drilling into a roll cage to check for the right wall thickness on the tubing.

Again, it's not JDM hating, it's just facts... The Cusco cage may be adequate, but who knows until they're tested...
