Registering a car from another state
I am looking at trading my car for a car in New York, does anyone know anything about the process to register a car from another state into Florida.

Sure - contribute sales tax to Bush and pay a higher title transfer fee. OTherwise no brainer. Check with NY - you should be able to get temp tag up there if you wanna drive it back.

To elaborate:
If you buy a car elsewhere and pay tax there for it, and then you bring it to Florida within some time period (which might be six months, but I don't remember), you'll pay the difference between the sales tax there and what it is here in your home county (where you're registering it) [as long as the difference is positive, you'll pay -- they won't give refunds! Also, you need to prove that you paid those other-state taxes somehow.] plus the normal title and licensing fees.
When we moved here, registering our FXT involved just the license and title fees, because we'd had it for 18 months or so. But my S was only about 6 weeks old (I bought it for the trip here and to have it here) and, because we moved from low-tax New Mexico, I got whacked with a huge tax bill. It's one of those little "surprises" that the state of Florida hits newcomers with, along with old-timers who buy cars elsewhere. HPH
